Weekend Wanderings - Snow Day!

On Friday morning, I woke up to the same surprise as all the NYC public school kids: a snow day!  I used the day to beg our super to fix our heat (fruitlessly, unfortunately - the apartment stayed at a frosty 53° the whole weekend, until we started boiling water for hours and baking everything we could think of, which made things a little toastier on Sunday), do laundry, and take a nice long walk in the snow.

On Saturday we argued a little more with our super, and then spent most of the day out of the house trying to keep warm.  We bought some whiskey, got Roger's hair cut, worked out some banking troubles we didn't even know we were having, wandered around the Strand, and had a nice late lunch at Vanessa's Dumplings.  After shopping a bit at DSW (as usual, Roger bought shoes and I didn't find any I liked), we headed over to Rob's house for an evening of cards, beer, and one of the best deli sandwiches I've ever had at Sal, Kris, and Charlie's Deli.  It was so enormous that the three of us split one and were all still full.

I was hoping to post more photos, because it was GORGEOUS out, but my downloads are being wonky today.

On Sunday, our super told us not to call him, and we'd already been out all day the day before, so we slept late and then started boiling large pots of water, which really did warm the place up (although it also caused all of our walls to condensate).  We made a small trip to Whole Foods to buy ingredients to make granola, and then had a quiet evening to ourselves.  When I woke up this morning, it was a balmy 54° outside, and the inside temperature had risen to a legal 68°!  I'm doubtful that it will last, since it's supposed to drop to 9° tonight, but we'll see.  In the meantime, I'm stocking up on soups and books to read under the comforters.  We'll see how the week goes!

Edited to add: here are a few more photos from the snowy day!
