West Coast Wedding Extravaganza - Day 7

Friday, August 23, 2013

We woke up before the sun on Friday, and quietly slipped out of Kristin and Drew's apartment to catch our early flight to Portland, OR.  After an uneventful flight, we arrived at our hotel, the Portland Marriott City Center, and were greeted with some lovely guest bags, along with suggestions for fun from Sarah and Matt.

After resting for a bit, we headed to the Portland Art Museum, which is the oldest museum in the Pacific Northwest and has an incredible collection of Native American art.  The staff was very friendly and welcomed our questions, and I was really excited to see all of their art.  They also have a second building/wing with contemporary art that was a lot of fun to visit.

After that, we headed to Kenny & Zuke's Delicatessen to meet up with Alana and Mered, also in town for the wedding.  The food was amazing!  Even though it's easy to find great deli food in New York, I would definitely recommend stopping here for lunch.  Everything we ordered was fantastic, especially the latkes!

Afterward, we headed to Powell's books, which was wonderful, though a little more commercial than City Lights felt.  We all wandered around the stacks, pulling off copies of favorite titles, checking out new ones, for a bit, and then we stopped at Stumptown coffee for some authentic Pacific Northwest coffee.

Then we went back to the hotel to get all prettied up for Sarah and Matt's welcome reception at the Davis Street Tavern.  The tavern had a great atmosphere - it was very relaxed but still classy - and the food they did for the party was delicious.  Their drinks were great, too!  It was so nice to see all of my Sarah Lawrence friends before the wedding, and to be able to say hello to Sarah's family, too.  When you live with someone for so long, it's easy to feel really close to their family as well, even when you don't see them, and that's exactly how I feel about Sarah's parents, grandmother, and sister.

The bridal couple, looking gorgeous and happy!

A pretty hilarious speech!

Me and Leah!

We had a blast, and stayed there most of the night (although not as late as Matty did!) drinking and chatting the evening away.  It was a perfect first day in Oregon!
