Writer Wednesday - Sarah Venditti

I've been admiring Sarah Venditti since my junior year of high school, when she came to a meeting of our literary magazine, read an amazing poem she'd written, and left. That year, or maybe the year after, she put together a little printed out leaflet with a photocopy collage and poetry, and distributed it around the school, and cemented herself in my mind as the coolest person on earth. Flash forward ten years, and now Sarah is still the coolest person on earth. A holistic health counselor, mother, wanderer, and now farmer, she's incredible and I hope you'll check out her site (and if you're in or near Kingston, that you'll meet her and her partner at the farmer's market there)!

Who are you? Sarah Venditti

Where can you be found online? Do you have a blog or other online receptacle for your work? If so, how would you describe it to a stranger you've just met while on vacation? www.RevivalCityFarms.com or www.Abundanceeverywhere.com

Abundance Everywhere was a travel project I did with my partner Phil and our two kids where we crossed the country and back on little to no money and relied on the abundance of the universe. We also visited farms and intentional communities to bring the information back to start our thing in Kingston, NY.

The "thing" that we started was an urban farm called Revival City Farms. We have occupied unused land in the city of Kingston and started farming it to produce organic food for the neighborhoods in which they are located. The plots will also serve as demonstration site for sustainable agriculture and for education purposes.

What inspired you to start writing/blogging? When did it happen? I don't know because I have been writing for as long as I can remember. I started blogging because its easier than trying to get published.

Why do you write? My mother once told me I was a good writer, that I made her laugh and cry. I believed her. So I keep going.

Your writing inspires me. Who inspires you? Mother Theresa. Mary Oliver. Pablo Neruda. Vonnegut.

In keeping with the admittedly loose travel theme of Not Intent On Arriving, if you could have an all-expenses paid trip anywhere in the world, where would you go? Tunisia

What is your favorite place on earth? Whenever I am on a boat at sunset, but usually Maine.

Anything else you'd like us to know? Eat your vegetables.
