Writer Wednesday - Charl from A Place on the Bookshelf

Charl is a vintage-lover, reader, writer, blogger, Creative Writing student, vinyl-collector, stationery geek, tea-addict, and loves writing lists and making vintage-inspired stationery and jewellery. She studies and lives in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK but is from Birmingham, UK. She also loves penguins.

Who are you? Charlotte…but everyone calls me Charl!

Where can you be found online? Do you have a blog or other online receptacle for your work? If so, how would you describe it to a stranger you've just met while on vacation? Remember, you're in a hot tub with them on a clear cold night, stars twinkling above you. They want all the details. If not, tell the hot-tub-stranger about your writing in such a way that makes them urge you to get an online receptacle for it. I can be found at! It’s a blog full of everything in my life: books, writing, fashion/beauty, crafts and anything vintage! It definitely has something for everyone! I also sell vintage-inspired cards, jewellery and wedding stationery on Etsy. My shop is:

What inspired you to start writing/blogging? When did it happen? While I was in Plymouth visiting my boyfriend last Summer I suddenly thought that I wanted a proper hobby – just something to do over Summer to keep me busy. I can’t remember exactly how the idea of a blog came to me, I think I was inspired by my friend Hayley’s blog. I was originally going to write about all things books and writing, as I’m currently doing a Creative Writing degree. However, this year it’s merged into a lifestyle blog, covering all aspects of my life.

Why do you write? From a young age, I was always writing stories. I’ve always been creative. I love the freedom you get with writing and there are so many outlets for it. You can write fiction, non-fiction, a blog, a magazine. Anything. Now I have my blog, I write so much now and I love it.

Your writing inspires me. Who inspires you? Other blogs inspire me, particularly Darling Lovely Life ( and A Beautiful Mess ( . I’m also inspired by stories I read, non-fiction (currently I’m reading a Psychology book as I loved the subject when I studied it at A Level and it’s given me loads of story ideas), music and just generally observing the world around me – people watching is fun!

In keeping with the admittedly loose travel theme of Not Intent On Arriving, if you could have an all-expenses paid trip anywhere in the world, where would you go? There are so many places to choose from! I’d love to travel round America, that’d be awesome. Also going to Kenya and doing a safari would be cool.

What is your favorite place on earth? There’s nothing better than snuggling up in bed with a good book or watching a great film…with a cup of tea!
