Writer Wednesday - Tamera Beardsley

Tamera Beardsley is a California-based designer and lifestyle blogger. A graduate of UCLA, she owned her own fashion accessories company but decided to leave the business to focus on her family after the birth of her third child. Her blog, TameraBeardsley.com, is her way of bringing the style and design she's always loved back into her life and into the lives of her many lucky readers.

Who are you? I am a designer and a lifestyle blogger, living in Southern California. I am the mother of three college age children and I have been married for 27 years. I graduated from UCLA and went on to own a fashion accessories company, but shuttered the business with the birth of my third child. My blog has been an online journal of sorts … to finding my way back into the world of design and style that I have always loved.

Where can you be found online? Do you have a blog or other online receptacle for your work? If so, how would you describe it to a stranger you've just met while on vacation? My blog is Tamera Beardsley.com. I cover all things lifestyle—clothes, food, decor, gardening and my travels, both local and beyond,—while also adding in personal life reflections. I believe in the idea that life can be hard but living beautifully can help keep the focus on the good.

What inspired you to start writing/blogging? When did it happen? I came to blogging after my oldest daughter left for college. I had become the women who I feared to become, one that had totally immersed herself in the lives of her children, with the inevitable loss of self that can be the byproduct sometimes of loving fiercely. My blog began first as a collection of images, pictures that I took when I asked myself, what do I find beautiful, how do I want to spend my time in this next phase of life? Soon after the images, thoughts using words began to appear and I had begun an online journal. It became my veritable road back to myself; a sacred space for me to share and grow, as I have learned much along the way.

Why do you write? I write—like many people—because I have to. For me to process heartache or anxiety on a clean page, writing as it comes from my heart, is not only cathartic but the impetus for self growth.

Your writing inspires me. Who inspires you? Right now the people who inspire me are two women who are meeting life's greatest trials, like the sudden and tragic loss of a 19-year-old daughter or being a beautiful mother of a four-year-old who learned she has stage three breast cancer. I have been overwhelmed with the grace and courage both these women show in navigating their new life situations. I am inspired by those living with courage, love and gratitude.

In keeping with the admittedly loose travel theme of Not Intent On Arriving, if you could have an all-expenses paid trip anywhere in the world, where would you go? Such a fun idea to ponder, my dear. I think it would be to explore Ireland and France … with a quick trip to the big cities for reference … but most of the time combing through the rural areas to find what ever lay ahead. My favorite traveling usually involves just getting out anywhere to discover the best in the destinations and experiences.

What is your favorite place on earth? Definitely my home.

Anything else you'd like us to know? I was very honored by your interest, my dear. Thank you.
