Writer Wednesday - Elana Lyn Gross

Elana Lyn Gross writes for the Preppy Post Grad, where she gives career advice and writes on culture, food, and New York City. I first found her blog when I was looking for some career advice on my own, and I stayed for her friendly tone and lively writing. Her Instagram is also one of my very favorites - her photos of Central Park make me miss living close to it more than anything else! Elana is also a content strategist and has written for the Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, and many other outlets.

Elana Lyn Gross - The Preppy Post Grad

Who are you? I am a content strategist at a social media and word of mouth marketing firm. I'm also a career advice and lifestyle blogger. When I'm not writing, I'm likely to be found walking in Central Park, biking, spending time with friends and family, or exploring all New York City has to offer.

Where can you be found online? Do you have a blog or other online receptacle for your work? If so, how would you describe it to a stranger you've just met while on vacation? I write the career advice and lifestyle blog, The Preppy Post Grad. I write about what I wish I had known when I graduated from college and the things that inspire me. I write about everything from how to ace a phone interview to how to make the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. I hope that there is always something that people can relate to their own lives.

What inspired you to start writing/blogging? When did it happen? I always loved writing but I decided to start blogging when I worked as a paralegal after graduating from college. I missed writing and needed a creative outlet. I never imagined that the blog would turn into what it is now. I didn't think anyone other than my parents and friends would read it. I feel so fortunate that so many people read it now!

Why do you write? I write because I hope that I help people and make an impact. It makes my day when someone emails to ask me for career advice or to thank me for writing an article that made them feel more confident during their job search. I also write because it is like a not so personal diary of the things that matter to me.

Your writing inspires me. Who inspires you? Thank you so much! In terms of blogs, the bloggers that inspire me the most are York Avenue, Design Darling, and The Prepary. They are all so creative and they've really nailed the voice and tone of their respective blogs. It feels like you a reading something from a very close friend who always has great advice.

In keeping with the admittedly loose travel theme of Not Intent On Arriving, if you could have an all-expenses paid trip anywhere in the world, where would you go? I'd love to go to Morocco, my dad went recently and it seemed like such an incredible trip.

What is your favorite place on earth? I absolutely love NYC. There is always something interesting to do. I grew up in Manhattan and when I studied abroad I realized I had done touristy things around the world - but not in my own home town. When I realized that, I started making seasonal to-do lists for things I wanted to do in NYC. I love trying new things and discovering now and fun things to do in NYC.
