Not Intent On Arriving is a travelblogue of motion, past and present. Following Lao Tzu's wisdom that "a good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving," I try to celebrate all the journeys in my life. So far, I've recorded a bunch of overnight trips, along with a variety of weekend trips, and I hope to post more about past trips, and future ones here as well. Along the way, though, this became more than simply a place to record my travels, and is now a location for my daily wanderings, wonderings and savorings. Recently, I've also started interviewing some of my favorite writers. Things are busy lately, and I don't record nearly as much as I wish I could, but I try to check in as often as I can.
As for me, I'm a young poet trying to find the extraordinary in the mundane. Beyond traveling, I love enormous meals with friends, autumn, being on the water, framed photographs, running, new experiences, and especially reading. In 2004, I fell pretty hard in love, with Roger (an Africanist art historian who appears often in this blog and is on the left side of the above picture, taken in Dakar). In 2016, we moved out of the big city to Vermont, where we live on a lake with our cat, Virginia Woolf. From 2008 to 2015, I worked for an academic publisher before moving into higher education. I've studied at the University of Oxford and Middlebury College, and I hold a BA in Literature from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA in Poetry from New York University.
